NTT DATA Payment Services India has unified its payment and commerce offerings under a new brand, ADAPTIS, targeting merchants from neighbourhood retailers and MSMEs through to large enterprises.
The launch brings together NTT DATA Payment Services India's payment acceptance, merchant solutions, value-added services, and commerce capabilities under a single brand. ADAPTIS is structured around four service pillars: In-Store payment solutions for physical retail, an e-commerce payment gateway, an enterprise platform for larger organisations, and a Value-Added Services tier aimed at operational efficiency and customer engagement.
India's payments market runs on a mix of credit cards, debit cards, and UPI, the government-backed real-time payments system that accounted for 58% of in-store payments in 2024, while cash transactions fell to 15%. Managing multiple payment options often requires retailers to maintain separate contracts; NTT Data aims to simplify this by handling payment intermediation for retail and e-commerce vendors through a single platform.
NTT Data is targeting high-value transaction sectors to differentiate its offering, specifically focusing on tuition payments and securities trading. That focus reflects the competitive and regulatory pressures facing foreign entrants: the Indian government requires payment service providers to waive fees for UPI transactions to encourage adoption of the platform, and the sector features established domestic and international competitors, including Razorpay, PayU, and Cashfree Payments.
The ADAPTIS platform is already operational in several Southeast Asian markets including Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The platform also aims to facilitate cross-border transactions by connecting India's UPI with international fast payment systems.
By fiscal 2030, NTT Data expects its overseas electronic payment business to generate 150 billion yen (US$953 million) in annual revenue — roughly a threefold increase from its projected fiscal 2025 revenue. India is positioned as a central market in that growth plan.
