Chennai IT delivery manager breaks down after being told to fire 12 long-term colleagues

A delivery manager at a Chennai IT company has shared an account on Reddit of being summoned into a closed-door meeting, handed an Excel sheet with 12 names, and told to terminate each person before Friday with 15 minutes allotted per conversation.

The 12 people on that list had been part of his team since 2016. Several were navigating serious personal and financial difficulties, including at least one who had recently taken out a home loan. His team called him "Anna"  Tamil for elder brother, a detail he said made the order harder to bear.

The manager said he considered resigning rather than carrying out the layoffs. His wife talked him out of it, pointing out that quitting wouldn't save the 12 jobs , another manager would simply be sent in to do the same thing.

The post drew wide attention, with many readers saying it named something that often goes unspoken: middle managers are close enough to their teams to feel the full weight of these decisions, but rarely have the authority to push back against them.

No company name was disclosed. The account reflects only the manager's own telling, as reported from the Reddit thread.
