Reliance Industries Limited and Meta Platforms have signed an agreement to develop an AI-enabled hyperscale data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat; Meta's first built-to-suit data centre in India.
The facility will have an initial capacity of 168 MW, making it one of India's largest AI-focused digital infrastructure projects. It is expected to be delivered within two years and includes provisions to expand capacity in the future.
Meta will lease capacity from the facility, while Reliance will develop, operate and manage the underlying infrastructure. Under the agreement, Reliance will provide end-to-end services across the lifecycle of the facility, including design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity and fully managed operational services.
The project will support Meta's global artificial intelligence workloads, cloud computing operations and data processing requirements. The data centre will run on renewable energy and will also use desalinated seawater to reduce reliance on freshwater resources.
The partnership expands a relationship that has evolved from Meta's multibillion-dollar investment in Reliance's Jio Platforms to a $100 million joint venture launched last year to develop enterprise AI solutions for customers in India and overseas markets.
With the new data centre initiative, the partnership has now moved beyond software and platforms into physical infrastructure, reflecting a deeper integration of their capabilities. It also reflects India's emergence as a preferred destination for next-generation digital infrastructure investments.
