IBM and Yotta Data Services made their Sovereign Agentic AI Platform generally available to Indian organisations on 29 September 2026, moving a partnership first announced in May from a proposed architecture into a live service.
The platform brings together two technology stacks. IBM watsonx Orchestrate acts as the agentic control plane, handling the deployment, security and governance of AI agents. Yotta supplies the underlying compute, GPU infrastructure, networking and security through its Shakti Cloud, hosted across data centres in Panvel and Greater Noida.
A third layer, Yotta's Shakti Studio, gives organisations tools to develop, fine-tune and run both open-source and proprietary AI models for inference workloads.
The design keeps data, model inference, agent operations and governance controls within India , a distinction the companies are positioning as a response to tightening regulatory expectations around data residency. IBM and Yotta have identified security operations, document processing and HR automation as initial workload categories for the platform.
Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, noted in a statement that digital sovereignty and open-source models are becoming a defining requirement as organisations scale AI from pilots to production, adding that compliance and transparency in deployment now matter as much as capability.
For enterprises managing sensitive data across regulated sectors, the platform offers an integrated option for deploying AI agents without routing workloads or governance decisions through infrastructure outside the country.
